For the Deparmtent's website redesign in 2011, I worked with the College of Arts and Science Webmaster to decide upon the site's structure. I took photographs of each studio area and built slideshows of these photographs into the existing site layout. I was also responsible for maintaining a slideshow of department news and events on the home page and for managing profiles of the department's faculty and staff through the College's Web Content Management System, both transferring information from the old site and updating the profiles as necessary. less
A page was created for each studio area, with images and information for students about the classes offered in the area.
Void is a gallery and workspace for creatives. We display monthly exhibitions that are accessible and affordable and host community programming - from workshops to communal making and art nights. Programming is held in The Creative Commons which includes a full printmaking studio as well as an event space bookable for small events and projects.
Our gallery space is now closed. Our printmaking studio and production space is available by membership or appointment. Please visit www.creativecommonsyxe.com for more details.
We are located at 312 Ave B South in Saskatoon.
Void was founded in 2012 by Kris Kershaw, Nelson Fraser, and Michael Peterson.
I received a BFA with a focus in Printmaking from the University of Saskatchewan in 2009. For the past two and a half years I have worked for the Department of Art & Art History at the U of S in a number of roles. I started as the Gallery Assistant at Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, rebuilding the gallery website as well as assisting with exhibition installation and takedown and collection management. I also served as web designer for the Department, helping with the rebuild of the department site. Most recently I have worked in Printmaking, both as the Printmaking Technician and as a Sessional Lecturer. I also teach an annual half-day course on gallery procedures for the U of S Centre for Continuing and Distance Education.
At void's predecessor, Esteem for the Home, I served as Gallery Coordinator, responsible for booking artists, installing shows, and promoting our exhibitions.
In my own practice, I focus mainly on printmaking, especially woodcuts and etchings as of late. I am a founding member of Ink Slab, Saskatoon's only artist-run printmaking studio.
We are always looking for new artists. We show paintings, drawings, prints, photos, and sculpture (ranging from woodwork to textiles to pottery to metal to mixed media). As well, we are open to more experimental exhibition proposals. While we do accept individual submissions, and show a number of individual shows each year, we encourage artists, where possible, to submit exhibition proposals with fellow artists whose work complements each others' either stylistically or who are working together in response to a common idea or theme. We seek to build and strenghthen community through art, and encourage our artists to work to do the same.
